This project is near to my heart. I worked on this design as a gift to my grandparents. They are elderly and retired and have lived in their home since the 90s. That said they have not made a single update to their kitchen in that time outside of swapping out the appliances. I wanted to create a design that would utilize the space that they have available and give them a little more counter space. They host our entire family for the holidays and need a lot more space to prep and cook for such a large crowd.
My grandmother's favorite color is yellow, so I wanted to incorporate that hue throughout this kitchen. From fabric accents to golden lighting and even the subtle off-white cabinetry that has a warm hue.
Ultimately they loved it and have been considering aspects of my design in their plans to remodel the kitchen in the future. Going forward the one change I would make to this design would be to take the wall cabinetry up to the ceiling, I think it would make the design look more finished.
